From the beginning of his career until today, Derek has effectively done two things:

Fight for those injured by others. Litigate their cases from start to finish.

After working several years for a larger personal injury firm where Derek recovered millions of dollars for his clients, he opened Atlantic Injury Law to give well-deserved time to each person who needed his help.  This dedication is the cornerstone of Atlantic Injury Law and is shown by the passion that Derek brings to his practice of law.  As it has been from the beginning, Derek treats each client as a person and not just another case. Derek began his career as an Assistant State Attorney at the Broward Office of the State Attorney, 17th Judicial Circuit, rising to the rank of a Homicide Unit Prosecutor. During this time, Derek tried over 40 jury trials, countless non-jury trials, and successfully argued hundreds of motions. In January of 2015, Derek helped co-found the Traffic Homicide Unit where he investigated, filed, and took to trial cases such as: DUI Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, and Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death. It was here that Derek developed his passion for seeking justice for those killed or injured in vehicle crashes. Based on the guidance and support he provided for those injured by drunk drivers, Derek has been nominated multiple times by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for Outstanding Prosecutor. Prior to his legal career, Derek attended the University of Central Florida, where he attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies and remained on the Dean’s List every semester. After graduating UCF, Derek went back to his hometown to attend law school at the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree. Derek is a native South Floridian who enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He also enjoys boating, diving and being outdoors.
